After doing a bit more work to my 2005 Chevy Express 3500 over the quarantine, I figured it was time for an updated walk around. This thing is really coming along and I am pumped about the progress so far. The addition of the new roof rack and awning really brought it into its own.

My "rigged up" power situation made it nice to just plug an extension cord into the bumper and be able to charge all my camera gear, phone, and to run the box fan at night. No more fumbling with extension cords running in and out of the doors and windows.

No camping van is complete without curtains to keep out sunlight and offer privacy. After some quick web searches, it was apparent that I was going to have to make my own to get exactly what I wanted for the Chevy Express van. Luckily I had access to a sewing machine that I could borrow, so I watched a few videos on how to make curtains and got to work. I used 100% blackout curtains and cut them down to be the sizes that I needed. This was my first sewing experience, so they definitely aren't perfect, but I am pretty happy with how they turned out!

My 2005 Chevy Express 3500 is getting a bit of an overhaul in 2020. It is a 15 passenger extended van that I have had for about 10 years. I tore the carpet out when I got it and have basically used it solely for pulling the Jeep to and from the off-road parks. Well, I have decided that it's time to show the van some love and hit it with some upgrades and some long overdue maintenance.

I started by getting a cheap Maaco paint job and had them pull out a few big dents. In this video we are installing flooring, carpet, and our new bed frame. The flooring and carpet will help make this thing quieter, while also helping insulate it while we are camping. Future plans for our crawler hauler include a roof rack with lights, RV power hookup, awning, curtains, and a few other creature comforts on the inside. I am not fully converting it to a dedicated camper van, because I want to be able to throw all of the bench seats in it if I ever want to load my buddies up and hit the road.
